This is the stuff dreams are made of. We all know and love Magnum ice cream, right? My personal favourite is their Death By Chocolate one. Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate! So the folks at Magnum decided to take things to the next level and get South Africans to come up with their own Magnum creations. In order to do this, they launched the Magnum pleasure store in Rosebank where you can go in and make your own Magnum. Ahead of the official launch happening on Saturday, we were invited, along with other media and celebrities, to see what all the fuss is about.
Celebrities such as Bonang Matheba, Jonathan Boynton-Lee, Tamerin Jardine, Roxy Burger, Lalla Hirayama, Maps Maponyane, Lee-Roy Wright, Zuraida Jardine, Gert-Johan Coetzee, Kerry McGregor, Danny K, Jen Su and many more attended the extravaganza last night and boy, was it a party.
After a simple demonstration from Bonang and Jonathan, we rushed off to try our hand at this decadently dangerous indulgence. The process is pretty simple. You choose your toppings, you choose your coating (white, milk or dark chocolate), sprinkle your toppings and have it branded with the Magnum ‘M’ and you’re ready to go.
I decided to try a bit of honeycomb, sea salt, almonds, pistachios and dried strawberries on mine. Strange combination, I know, but damn, did it taste good! I do wish I could have had a chocolate Magnum ice cream, but these come standard in the vanilla flavour. Beatenberg ended the evening with some of their slick and sexy tunes as well which was a real treat.
This idea is so unique and clever and I definitely recommend that every single one of you reading this head out to the store ASAP! The concept store opens Saturday 1 November and costs R40 to create. Yes, it’s kak expensive but trust me, you’re going to want to treat yourself to this!
Well done, Magnum! You’ll definitely see me again.
