Josh Groban’s New Album Goes Gold Ahead Of SA Tour

I’ve got my tickets and I’m ready to head to the Ticketpro Dome tomorrow to catch Josh Groban live in South Africa for the first time in 12 years. Josh will perform four shows around the country as part of his Stages World Tour – one in Johannesburg, one in Durban and two in Cape Town and just before Josh takes the stage, his latest album Stages achieved gold status in South Africa – selling an excess of 20 000 copies.

To celebrate, Josh, who arrived in South Africa yesterday, was awarded a special South African gold plaque to take home – and, naturally, he was overwhelmed by the local support. To make the award even more special, Warner Music South Africa, Josh’s label, had a special plaque created with his album cover made of beads instead of the usual gold record, making this award the most unique he has received to date.

Josh has been a favourite with South African audiences since he released his debut studio album back in 2001. In fact, Josh has been so popular that throughout his career he has sold over 650 000 albums in South Africa alone.

“I love that! Thank you,” Josh gushed shortly after receiving his gold plaque. “Every plaque that I get from South Africa I always hang up at my house. They’re very very special to me. [The beads] are better than a record. This is awesome.”

Josh’s latest album Stages features his favourite musical theatre tracks which he describes as “gorgeously arranged songs that have stood the test of time”. The tracks included in the record come from productions such as Les Misérables, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel; Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd; Into the Woods; The Fantasticks, A Chorus Line; Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Phantom of the Opera; The Wizard of Oz and others.

There are limited tickets still available from Computicket for his shows. If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, you know what to do.
