I made it! As I type this, I have just woken up from my first night in Los Angeles ahead of the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Now, it’s not the easiest of trips flying from the city of gold to the city of dreams. All in all, it took over 28 hours to step into my hotel room.
I flew British Airways to LA which was split into two 11 hour flights. One from Johannesburg to London and, of course, the second from London to LA. Now, as luck would have it, I sat next to the oldest woman in the world on the flight to London but that flight wasn’t too bad at all. The truth is, however, that I totally needed that 4 hour layover – even if it was just to get my humungous cup of Starbucks.
The flight to LA, although not having that old woman next to me, was horrible and was stoked when I could finally stretch my legs again! I was picked up by the best driver in the world – a man named Desmond. Desmond was more than happy to tell me about all the different places we drove past on the way to the hotel.
I’m staying at the Le Meridien Delfina in Santa Monica which seems booked out by Nickelodeon. Press and employees of the channel will be hustling around the hotel for the next few days I’m sure. Later that evening, I went over to the Santa Monica Place for a quick dinner at the Redwood Grille before heading back to the hotel for a good nights sleep.
Naturally, jet-lag managed to get the better of me but it could be the excitement because I was told that I am accredited for the orange carpet at the awards. But anyway, I am up and ready for the adventures of Day 2!
Here are some pictures from Day 1:
