Brutal Fruit is a brand I really admire. Sure, they have some great product but the brand has taken it’s marketing to a new level and has engaged with many local celebrities in a number of happenings. The latest one was the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup Celebrity Challenge. Here, the alcohol brand teamed up with some local celebs for a celebrity netball match to benefit POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse).
The celebs were split into two teams – the Lavascious Lemons and the Cheeky Cranberries. Ceebrities that took part included Pearl Modiadie, Lalla Hirayama, Zizo Beda, Eda Rose and Pearl Thusi on the Lavascious Lemons team and Jena Dover, Dineo Moeketsi, Khanya Mkhangisa, Luthando Shosha, Lerato Kganyago and Miss Pru on the Cheeky Cranverries team.
This is a powerful group of women – women who are able, and who have, made a difference and I think it’s very important for celebrities to take part in these sort of things. The challenge was launched on 10th of May 2014, by Sport & Recreation Minister, Fikile Mbalula which has seen 9 provinces battling it out for the championship title.
According to the Brutal Fruit team “The Brutal Fruit Netball Cup is a catalyst for change for women in sports, offering them an opportunity to strengthen their skill, while becoming role models and true ambassadors of the nation. Brutal Fruit is confident that the sponsorship of the Netball Premier League will drive radical change in women’s sports in South Africa and greater equity in the sports industry as a whole.”
They further go on to say that “One of the reasons behind Brutal Fruit’s decision to get involved in the league is to ensure that the face of the sporting hero can also be a heroine, affirming women as credible role models in the sporting fraternity.”
What a great initiative by the Brutal Fruit team! We fully support them – especially since we got to see some of our favourite local celebs rocking those netball outfits!
