Zambian DJ El Mukuka has become one of Africa’s brightest hitmakers and has fast made a name for himself as one of the most exciting acts in African dance music. Now, the producers has teamed up with James Sakala for the ultimate summer anthem aptly titled ‘Heatwave’.
‘Heatwave’ is a high energy, feel-good summer song that fuses Zambian folk music with Western piano-house. The track features the multiple-award winning Zambian folk singer James Sakala who has worked with numerous top African musicians including the late Zimbabwean superstar Oliver Mtukudzi. El Mukuka and James Sakala wrote ‘Heatwave’ alongside American singer-songwriter Bailey Hyneman. The song is in English and Bemba (the most widely spoken traditional language in Zambia).
Mukuka tells us that “‘Heatwave’, to me, is a song about letting your hair down and having an amazing summer night filled with romance, dancing and bliss. In the 27 years I’ve been on this earth, I can’t think of a time when uplifting music was needed more than it is right now. I truly hope this song succeeds in shining a little light on as many people as it can during these dire times.”
The song is set to light up parties around the continent and has instantly made us long for summer.
