He has had the biggest song in the country for three weeks in a row and a few weeks back, I spoke to the incredible DJ Clock! The DJ, who released the hit song ‘Pluto (Remember You)’ with pop group Beatenberg, has taken things to the next level with his latest album The Fourth Tick: A Clockumentary which features a staggering 71 songs! I spoke to DJ Clock about the new record, the Beatenberg boys and what 2014 has to offer!
Your new album is finally available. Why that name?
The 4TH Tick is a follow up of the Tick series of albums that I have released in the past but with this one I wanted to create an experience, hence the theme. It’s a collection of my work for the past three years, and showcasing my abilities as a DJ/producer, collaborating with SA’s finest from 21 known brands and new un-tapped talent, and two international collaborations.
You worked with Beatenberg on your new single. What
was it like working with them?
It was a beautiful experience; initially I was skeptical after I was told that a rock band would collaborate with me. They arrived and brought a song with them that they wanted me to add on to and I was surprised – it was beautiful and I did not even want to touch it as I felt I would mess it up, so I suggested we rather work on a new song, and the guys were excited about the idea.
Why do you think people love ‘Pluto (Remember You)’ so
much?
First of all it was an unexpected collaboration, yet mostly it is the mixture of the sounds, the maskandi guitar riff, the house and pop elements, with the beautiful lyrics from Matthew, the song reflects one of Tata Mandela’s vision of a rainbow nation, and that is a rainbow song, it has a soul, it touches people, you don’t know if you want to dance or just get on the road and drive to your loved one.
What do you think it is about you that makes you
unique?
I’m a hard worker, not a follower. I like creating, not reproducing what’s current now. I like to make the music speak for itself. I’m always open to new ideas and exploring and always willing to learn from those who came before us.
What can we expect from you over the next few months?
Well a lot is in store, the album is out, which is a six CD album with 71 songs, and I’m planning to do a stadium status tour officially launching the album featuring all the acts on the album – more singles, more shows, more video’s and a whole lot more external collaborations. I’m already back in the studio working on other projects for my company AM-PM Productions, so you can imagine what’s in store for 2014/15.
