Culture Vulture hitmaker, 25K, has some exciting news this week as he officially confirms that he has joined the Sony Music family.
25K, whose real name is Lehlohonolo Molefe, was born in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, and began his rap journey from an early age when he entered a talent show in Grade 10 rapping to DJ Khaled’s ‘I’m On One’ instrumental. Since high school, 25K has been seen as the voice of the youth in the township. After matriculating, he was unsure of his career path and began to do small jobs to assist his single mother.
To avoid the pressures of partaking in illegal activities, he decided to focus his energy towards music and entertainment. 25K broke onto the scene as a finalist for Homecoming Events’ “Artist On The Rise” talent search in 2017 where he shared a shared a stage with artists from all over the continent and the world such as Sho Madjozi, TKZee and Harrison Crump. He also gained local popularity after freestyling at the GalxBoyFreestyle Fridays that happened at the GalxboyStore in Pretoria.
In 2019 25K broke onto the scene with his hit single Culture Vulture. The song was inspired by the lack of originality in local hip hop and played on the fact that anyone who would copy what he does, either the song or his sound in general, would also be seen as a culture vulture. Culture Vulture got the attention of artists like DJ Maphorisa, Cassper Nyovest and AKA who decided to feature on the remix alongside Emtee. AKA also decided to add the talented rapper to line up of his monumental Orchestra on the Square. The song went on to win Best Remix at the South African Hip Hop Awards.
“After months of teasing my debut album, ‘Pheli Makaveli’ curated by Zoocci Coke Dope, I am excited to announce my partnership with Sony Music Entertainment Africa. It’s always good o work with a team that understands your vision,” the rapper says.
Now, 25K is excited to bring his fans brand-new music. His debut album ‘Pheli Makaveli’ is dropping at the end of July and fans finally get a glimpse of the project as the star drops the title single.
The rapper adds that fans will be treated to two more singles – ‘Hustler’s Prayer’ and ‘Trap Jumpin’.
